Training
Prospective members must meet the minimum qualifications per current City of San Diego / Local 145 MOU & SDFD TRT Administration Manual. The following information is a guideline only. Refer to the respective documents for accuracy.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Technical Rescue Team (TRT) requires specialized training. Prospective members must hold the following certifications prior to the initiation of a task book and trainee status. The training required to maintain TRT status is intensive.
Basic Courses:
Personnel have 24 months to complete all of the training courses and the taskbook. The following courses must be completed in addition to the 4 basic courses. Some of the courses are multiple parts to meet the required technician level.

Task Book
Task books are issued to TRT trainees that have completed the 4 basic courses. Trainees will be designated with a *T-TRT in telestaff to designate their status.
Drills
Qualified personnel must attend a minimum 50% of the TRT Drills. Drills can be held monthly, quarterly, bi-yearly or yearly. All TRT personnel are required to meet the 2 OSHA annual requirements: attend & practice confined space rescues at least once every 12 months & review the confined space permit program.
Continuing Education
All TRT personnel that have completed the task book are required to attend one continuing education class every 24 months. Review the TRT Admin manual for requirements, evaluations, and additional information.
Captains Meetings
Qualified TRT captains must attend 50% of the TRT Captain meetings.
