Members are required to be technician certified in the following:

• Rope Rescue
• Confined Space
• Trench Rescue
• Structure Collapse
• Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue
• Water Rescue

A minimum of 4 basic courses must be completed prior to initiation of a task book and trainee status.  Personnel are required to complete all of the basic and advanced courses within 24 months.  This can be completed by the member on their own time.  Occasionally, SDFD may announce a recruitment and sponsorship for specific ranks to attend these courses using grant funding. There are usually specific requirements that accompany these sponsorships.

Basic 4 Courses:

• Rescue Systems 1, RS1
• Rescue Systems 2, RS2 (Structure Collapse Techncian w/RSII Cert)
• Confined Space Technician (NFPA 1006/1670 compliant)
• Trench Rescue Technician (NFPA 1006/1670 compliant)

Advanced Courses:

• Swiftwater Rescue
• Vehicle and Machinery Rescue
• Rope Rescue Techncian
• Structure Collapse Technician (NFPA 1006/1670 compliant)

Task Book

Members who have completed the basic 4 courses, can request to initiate a taskbook. If accepted, the prospective member becomes a TRT trainee and will receive a *T-TRT designation in Telestaff.  Due to the intensive training maintenance, there are limitations on the number of people who are invited as trainees. Trainees can request to open a taskbook from the TRT Program Office.  Contact the current TRT Program Manager for more information.
