Although the teams primary responsibility is to the City of San Diego, the team may deploy throughout the state through the CalOES mutual aid system. Additionally the team is often called upon to assist various agencies in Field Force Extrication, Large Animal Rescue and as a Rapid Extrication Module. Many of the team members are also participants in the DHS / FEMA Type 1 Urban Search & Rescue Team, California Task Force 8 (CA-TF8).
Members of the team must meet minimum qualifications prior to being accepted; however, it is imperative they keep their skills current through intensive training, additional courses and actual incidents.
